Okay, I admit it! I am an apartmenttherapy.com junkie. It is an interior design blog that is continuously updated throughout the day with different postings related to all things interior design. I can’t get enough! Because it is constantly updated, it feels like I am flipping through an electronic magazine. I love it. So, I’ve decided that I am going to do a weekly post on my favorite room from apartment therapy from the previous week and tell why I love it.
The above is my first selection. It is an interior from the third floor of a converted Victorian home in Wicker Park. I was especially interested in this posting because I used to live in this neighborhood. I would jog down Hoyne between North Avenue and Division and try to imagine the beautiful interiors of this spectacular tree-lined, mansion-filled, Chicago historical street. If you get a chance to ride your bike, walk, or even drive down this enchanting stretch, it’s well worth taking this side street to get to your destination. As a matter of fact, I think that it is a destination in itself.
There are three key interior design elements that attracted me to this room. The first of which, is the color choice that the tenants made. Navy gives this small space a splash of bold, yet dignified, color. Accented by white and yellow/gold, navy gives this room a regal sense eliciting visions of women clad in sailor inspired outfits cocktailing on a yacht. This refined color palette is juxtaposed with kitschy midcentury modern accent pieces like the vase on the coffee table and the bucket chairs. I love the non-functional television set on the side table! It appears to me that it is being displayed simply for its 1960’s industrial design. I’m sure it is an instant conversation piece—unlike the televisions of today, which seem to suck the conversation out of a sitting room. Lastly, I love the texture of the rug and throw on the couch. They give a sense of warmth and definitely add to the funky, retro factor. I would love to sit and chat for hours with the owner in this lovely little spot on Hoyne.
I just realized, this is my first official roomination! There will be many more to come. Till next week...
